Mission Oaks Old Vine Zinfandel
My hometown of Lodi is considered one of the hotspots for zinfandel in the state, even dubbing itself “The
Zinfandel Capital.” In 2004, many of the growers experienced outstanding weather conditions which made the
local harvest one of the best ever for Lodi and its varietals. The 2004 Mission Oaks zinfandel is a good indicator
of Lodi’s improving quality. These grapes were hand selected from the outskirts of the city from Harris Vineyards,
whose vines have existed for several generations. This full-bodied zin opens with enticing aromas of berries and
spice and a body that carries luxurious flavors of blueberries and ripe cherries with hints of dark chocolate. The
long finish leaves with notes of cracked pepper, which is synonymous with Lodi zin. We enjoy pairing this wine with
grilled tri-tip and sausages, as the two together provide the perfect pairing.
